Varietals: Furmint 55%- Harslevelu 45%
Tasting Notes: Very concentrated with rich aromas of tropical fruits, white peaches, acacia honey, dried apricots, flowers and more. On the palate is round and silky, while the sugar does not feel heavy, the acidity brings beautiful flavours of sweet citrus, orange marmalade, candied ginger, yellow juicy pears, red apples and an endless fresh finish. Only 1210 bottles made.
Wine Style: Botrytised berries are hand picked piece by piece (a person can harvest a maximum of 8 kg /day) and macerated in a base wine for 12-60 hours. The aszu grape mixture is pressed and the resulting juice is fermented. The wine is then stored in oak barrels, which are typically made from oak from the nearby Zemplén forest, and aged minimum 18 months in the underground stone cellar systems. Further bottle ageing takes place in the same black mold cellars.
*The sweetness of Tokaj aszú has traditionally been measured in puttonys. A puttony is a 25-liter wooden basket, which was used for harvesting the aszú grapes. The most prized types of Tokaji aszú were made as either a five puttonyos version or a six puttonyos version, which means that the equivalent of five or six baskets of botrytized grapes had been added to each cask of base wine. The minimum residual sugar according to the law is 120 grams per liter for any wine to be called an aszú.
